There is not a fad that I haven’t followed. My husband calls me a marketer’s dream. If you have a product, I’ll buy it. If there’s a new diet – I call them *eating regimes* – I’ll follow it. I’ve tried Atkins, Keto, counted macros, counted calories, you name it, I’ve done it. Sucker much?
I am now plant-based whole foods – largely thanks to Game Changers, my running side hustle and how I feel as a result. When I’m in, I’m all in. So I have immersed myself in documentaries on plant based diets, sustainability and I am totally bought in. I see the difference it makes to my health, I feel I’m making my little contribution to the environment, I have the family bought into reducing the amount of meat they eat. It’s all good. I’ve been plant based now for 6 months and love it!
I discovered “Mastering Diabetes” after listening to both Robin Arzon (Type 1 queen and warrior extraordinaire) and listening to a Rick Roll podcast. I rushed out and bought the book, am only half way through the book but started introducing some of their recommendations into Chloe’s diet and it’s already making a difference. So I was a little hesitant at first, it goes against everything I’ve been taught about managing T1 – which is to reduce carbs, increase fats and protein. I was also worried about hypos, if it turned out to work.
I started slowly, well slowly for me. I introduced a fruit salad breakfast, a vegetarian lunch (on most days) and have been watching Chloe’s pump suspend her basal rates regularly over the past two weeks. I’ve sent a download of her pump to her endo to recommend changes, but will already change her carb ratio in the mornings.
So this is the start of a new way of managing diabetes, with the help of my friends Cyrus Khambatta and Robby Barbaro.

PS: I listened to Stacey Simms podcast on Mastering Diabetes talk about children’s privacy, her point was that we wouldn’t ordinarily share so much health information online about our children but a lot of T1 parents do. She made a great point, so in an effort to protect Chloe, I won’t be sharing actual numbers but more my reactions to them.
